Agriculture

Zajecar City possesses a significant potential for the continuous development of agricultural production. The area under agricultural land amounts to 70.000 ha, out of which the arable land covers the surface of 60.000 ha. Agricultural production is equally managed in individual and public sector, mainly farming, cattle breeding, viticulture and fruit growing. On the territory of the municipality there two prominent agricultural associations:

Agricultural property ``Zajecar``PLC, which is not entirely under private property (30% of the public capital is with the so called ``little shareholders``). Agricultural property ``Zajecar`` has at its disposal near 3.000 ha of arable land, mainly in use for farming and fruit growing. Beside the organized farming and fruit growing production, there is a farm for pigs fattening in Halovo. The annual crop that the association obtains amounts to over 8.000 tones of wheat, corn, sunflower and many other vegetable crops as well as near 300 tones of miscellaneous fruit cultures.

Agricultural production company ``Salas`` LLC is actually a former agricultural property ``Salas`` which had been privatized. The property was sold at an auction to the Belgrade company ``Agrosol``, owned by the successful Italian businessmen. The company solely deals with the organization of farming production and sheep breeding.
