Referring human resources, that is, the number of residents on the territory of the city, within the period of 1948 – 1981 is at a constant rise and, increase in number of residents of 62.887 – 76.681 had been noticed, that is, between 2.000 and 3.000 in between the censuses. Unfortunately, since the so called ``white plague`` is uppermost present in this very area of Serbia; starting from 1981 and up till now, the significant decrease in residents number from 76.681 to 65.969 according to the census from 2002 is not a surprising fact, while judging by the statistical assessment, the mentioned number of residents during 2006 slumped to merely 63.398 residents.
